A mudawwana (Arabic: جدول القبر), pl. mudawwanat, is a form of religious guidance found in the Quran. The term literally means "a table for the dead". Mudawwanas are enumerated beginning with the various stations or dispositions of their occupants at the time of death until they reach paradise, whereupon they offer praise to God and intercession on behalf of those who were buried before them. The first place where Muslims express their faith before God is during prayer. Before prayer, Muslims say the "takbir" ("Allahu Akbar"), which means God is greater than any other being. After this, one recites the first chapter of the Quran called the Fatiha. The Imam then makes an opening prayer followed by seven takbirs followed by another opening prayer followed by seven takbirs again. From these takbirs are derived other prayers that are said before reading the Quran. The first part of this book explains how to perform prayer (Salat) and also its significance (Nine conditions for Salat). The second part describes what to do after salat (Tahajjud) and before sleep (Miswaaks). The third part describes the importance of fasting (Sawm) and its conditions. The fourth part describes Zakat (almsgiving). The fifth part discusses Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca), the sixth talks about the importance of reciting the Quran, and the seventh part talks about wuquf (station) in prayer. The second book has similar contents to the first one but these are organised differently. It starts by saying the importance of reciting the Quran. Then, it describes five conditions for fasting. After this, it describes how to perform prayer in long journeys (mabahith). It continues by discussing seven practices during the day and night. The last chapter is about wuquf in prayer. The third book is about Hajj in three chapters: one chapter describing the spiritual significance of Hajj, one blessing after Hajj, and one blessing when summing up all blessings after Hajj. The last chapter covers wuquf in prayer. The fourth book discusses the major elements of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh). First, it describes the major types of Islamic law (Shari'a), followed by what the body of law derives from those. The last chapter is about wuquf in prayer. The fifth book consists of ten chapters: one chapter on how to manage one's business, one chapter about financial management, four chapters on how to manage time and work, one chapter describing the reward of good deeds performed correctly, one chapter describing bad deeds performed incorrectly, and two short chapters describing personal problems and dealing with them with caution. The last chapter is about wuquf in prayer.
